Notarial Services
Notaries are members of the legal profession who authenticate signatures and documents for commercial firms involved in international trade as well as for private individuals. Their main tasks include:
- preparing and witnessing documents (such as powers of attorney) for use worldwide
- dealing with the purchase or sale of land and property overseas
- providing documentation concerning the estates of people who live or own property abroad
- authenticating copy documents and signatures
- notarising international wills
- dealing with documents needed for immigration, emigration and other international use and purposes such as:
o Administering oaths, affidavits and
statutory declarations for foreign jurisdictions
o Certifying the authenticity of copies of academic
qualifications, copies of passports and other documents
o Attesting powers of attorney and other documents for use in
countries worldwide
o Notarising residential mortgages
o Notarising Sponsorship forms
o Certifying Capacity to Marry (often required to marry abroad)
o Documents for foreign adoption applications
o Attesting and authenticating the signature and execution of
documents
o Authenticating the signing of an acknowledgment for use in the
United States of America
o Applying for legalisation of documents at the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (otherwise ‘obtaining an
apostille)
and for legalisation when necessary from the relevant embassy
o Retirement Life Certificates
o Dealing with other documents for use overseas which require
authentication, such as permission for children to travel with a lone
parent; true likeness certificates or change of name deeds
o Taking evidence in England and Wales (often referred to as
depositions) for use in foreign countries
o Providing Notarised copies
- authenticating documents for international business and trade
transactions, such as:
o Attesting corporate powers of attorney and other documents for use in countries throughout the world
o Authenticating and verifying corporate documents for UK or foreign companies
o Authenticating documents to assist in the opening of corporate branch offices and bank accounts within the UK or abroad
o Notarising commercial mortgages
o Applying for legalisation of documents at the Foreign and
o Commonwealth Office and obtaining an apostille and for legalisation when necessary from the relevant embassy
o Presenting bills of exchange for acceptance and payment, noting and protesting bills in cases of dishonour
o Attesting and authenticating the signature and execution of documents
o Dealing with other documents for use overseas which require authentication
o Taking evidence by way of depositions in England and Wales for use in foreign courts
o Providing Notarised copies
